Colin
Mochrie
Colin Andrew Mochrie was born in Kilmarnock, Scotland on November 30, 1957. As the son of an airline maintenance executive,
his family tended to move around quite frequenty.
They
first moved to Chateauguay in 1964, then Vancouver in 1969. He considered himself a loner during his childhood days due to
his shyness(a trait he claims he still evidently has) and the frequent moving. At one point in his childhood, he had dreamed
of becoming a marine bioligist or a chef. However at age 16 he was dared by a friend to join a high school play where he had
the part of an undertaker. It was then that he got his first laugh by splitting his pants onstage. Afterwards he, "craved
for nothing but more laughter." He then joined Theatersports, where he attended an acting school for 4 years. It was there
he was introduced to Ryan Stiles. Shortly after doing Expo '86, Colin moved to Toronto.
There, he auditioned for The Second City (a famous North American comedy theater),
where Ryan Stiles was doing stand-up comedy at the time. He was hired by Debra McGrath. Ryan Stiles and his wife Pat Mcdonald
introduced Debra to Colin and they got married in 1989. They later had a son, Luke, who was born in 1991. Colin worked in
The Second City for three years and the couple then moved to Los Angeles, where Deb worked on a TV series with The Second
City colleague, Linda Kash. They hated it there and decided to move back to Toronto.
He is best known
for his role on the improv series, "Whose Line is it Anyway??" However, he first auditioned for Whose Line while in Toronto
but didn't make it.Luckily, he auditioned in L.A a few years later and
got the part. He says he owes it all to Ryan Stiles who "practicaly forced them to" hire him. In April 2000, he won a Canadian
Comedy Award for the best male improviser. One year later, he won another Canadian Comedy Award for Best Male Performance
in Television Series (Whose Line is it Anyway?).

jockey friend saw Drew’s comedic talent and offered to pay him to come up with funny ideas for his radio show. Drew
read books upon books about writing jokes and began to try out his stand up at local comedy clubs.
A
big turning point in Drew’s career was when he landed a guest appearance on “The Tonight Show” with Johny
